Here is what we will be watching this coming week:

On Monday, June 6 at 4:00, City Council will hold a budget work session for the 2023 fiscal year budget.

• In particular, Council will consider increasing its compensation based on the recent recommendations of the Study Group on Council Terms, Compensation and Voter Engagement.* Any adjustments will apply to the new Council after the November 2022 election. Read the full staff report here.

• Council will also consider additional compensation proposals for both police and firefighters — complete details here.

During its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 7, Council will consider the following item:

• Staff will provide an update on the status of the Lake Wheeler Road improvements recommended by the Dix Edge Area Study. These improvements will add sidewalks, separated bike paths, lights and trees / landscaping. Read more about it here.

Council will hold public hearings on the following matters:

• The City’s proposed budget for 2022-23. The full proposal is here.

• Proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendments (CP-10-21) related to the Western Blvd. Corridor Study and Bus Rapid Transit. Full agenda materials here.

• Text Change to allow Accessory Commercial Units (TC-12-21) in residential zoning districts and eliminates special use requirement for live-work use. As originally proposed, the text change allowed personal service businesses and general retail sales, but general retail sales were removed because the City lacks the legal authority to regulate the types of items that can be sold like vaping supplies, cigarettes and alcohol within general retail sales zoning category. Hours of operation are limited to 7:00am - 7:00pm. Here are the full agenda materials.
