Here is what we will be watching this week:

City Council canceled its regular work session for Tuesday, September 13th.

The Planning Commission meets on Tuesday, September 13th, at 9:00am. They have a packed agenda with 11 rezoning cases. Here are the cases we found particularly interesting:

1. Z-80-21 located on Forum Drive near Old Leadmine Road seeks to redevelop an abandoned movie theater that is adjacent to a larger shopping center near the intersection of Forum Drive and Six Forks Road. The request is to rezone 5.73 acres from Community Mixed-Use 3 stories to Community Mixed-Use 12 stories 12 stories. More information about the request is available here.

2. Z-22-22 is an infill site located at Boylan Street and Hargett Street. The request seeks to rezone .69 acres from Downtown Mixed-Use 7 stories to Downtown Mixed-Use 20 stories. The property currently contains 2 single-family detached houses. For more information about these cases, click here.

3. Z-29-22 is an infill rezoning for about 4.1 acres at the intersection of E. Millbrook and Falls of Neuse Road across from Quail Corners Shopping Center.  It is currently an underutilized set of 1-story office buildings.  The request is to change the zoning from Office Mixed Use 3-stories to Neighborhood Mixed Use-5-stories.  An adjacent property is currently being redeveloped for a medical imaging company.  For more information, click here.

Raleigh continues rolling out components of its new community engagement program. On Monday, September 12 at 6:00 pm the City will conduct a virtual meeting on its Digital Connectors program. Digital Connectors will be paid staff that are trained to work with residents and community groups to help answer questions and connect residents with ongoing land use, planning projects and other City initiatives. The City is holding a meeting on Tuesday, September 13 from 6-8:00 pm to update the community on its ongoing Black Heritage and Historic Places: 1945-1975 Study. For details and location, click here.

On Saturday, September 17 the City is holding a community input session on the proposed Chavis-Dix Strollway. The strollway will connect South Park Historic District, Chavis Park, and Dix Park. For more information, click here.
