June 19: The week ahead

Here is what we will be watching this coming week:

The Planning Commission will seek a 45 day extension from City Council to make a recommendation on the 2 rezoning cases that will apply the Transit Overlay District to properties along the Western Blvd. Bus Rapid Transit Corridor (Z-18-22 and Z-19-22). The new deadline will be August 4, 2022 if approved by Council.

On June 23, 2022, Planning Commission’s Committee of the Whole will be reviewing and make a recommendation to the full Planning Commission on the 2 rezoning cases that will apply the Transit Overlay District to properties along the Western Blvd. Bus Rapid Transit Corridor (Z-18-22 and Z-19-22). The new deadline will be August 4, 2022 if approved by Council, but to make that deadline, the full Planning Commission will need to act during its June 28, 2022 meeting.

At its June 21, 2022 meeting, City Council will consider authorizing staff to issue an RFP to sell City-owned property for the purposes of building new affordable housing on lots located in the in the downtown area.

On June 21, 2022, Council will consider accepting a proposal from Southeast Raleigh Promise to develop 27 affordable housing units on City-owned property in the downtown area.

On June 21, 2022, Council will receive the final report on the Dix Edge Area Plan (Comprehensive Plan Amendment CP-1A-22) and refer it to the Planning Commission for review and recommendation. Here is a link to the agenda material and draft Dix Edge Area Plan.

At Council’s June 21 meeting, Planning staff will be asking Council to refer the New Bern Avenue BRT Station Area Plan to Planning Commission for review. At the same time, staff will ask for permission to file a rezoning to apply a Transit Overlay District to property along the proposed New Bern Avenue BRT line. Find more about it here.
